THE PROJECT



The Letters Festival and the Harvey Milk Foundation, on the occasion of 2013 edition dedicated to Inclusion issue, conceived a special communication campaign called “Writing the distance”. This guerrilla communication campaign is aimed to fill the gap of diversity promoting a process of inclusion among communities (LGBT, women, religious or ethnical minorities, race issues and disabled people).

On the Writing the distance Week people are invited to kiss different photographs behind simple over-size postcards (pictures). This international operation has already been hosted between September and October 2013 in three different cities in the world: Milan and Rome in Italy, Orlando in the USA.

A troupe of 2 video operators, 1 photographer and 2 staff members invited people to kiss different pictures and to write/tell something about inclusion during one planned starting day (September 27) in Rome, in Florida during the Orlando Pride (from September 27 until September 29) and in Milan for the Letters Festival Week (September 30 – October 6 ).
All photographic and video contents were shared virally on Istagram and other social medias, as well as on this website.

The results of the first edition of this special campaign were presented during the prize-giving event of the Letters Festival that takes place every year in Milan.

 

Il Festival delle lettere, in collaborazione con la Fondazione Harvey Milk, promuove l’inclusione e il superamento di qualsiasi forma di distanza, fisica, culturale o sociale partendo dal valore della diversità come consapevolezza della propria identità e dell’autenticità indiscutibile del proprio essere. Una troupe composta da 2 operatori video e un fotografo ha invitato cittadini di ogni età e provenienza a farsi fotografare vicino ad alcune figure emblema di varie forme di diversità, scrivendo o esprimendo una riflessione sul tema dell’inclusione. La prima edizione dell’evento, svoltosi contemporaneamente in tre diverse città del mondo, Roma, Milano e Orlando, tra la fine di settembre e la prima settimana di ottobre, è stata condivisa in rete tramite Instagram, i canali social del Festival delle lettere e della Fondazione Harvey Milk e sul sito dedicato al progetto.

Le più belle immagini raccolte grazie a questa originale campagna sono state presentate in occasione dello spettacolo conclusivo del Festival, che ha luogo ogni anno a Milano e vede come protagoniste le migliori lettere inviate da tutta Italia, insieme ai progetti realizzati per le varie edizioni della manifestazione.
